I was lucky enough to be the director of this years VBS for our church. I love party planning honestly thought that it would be similar. I chose a program for Standard Publishing, HHQ Hero Headquarters. I loved the super hero theme, just knew the kids would too!! So in January we ordered it and I got started, granted I have never planned a party like this! I poured over the books and began the basic planning with a schedule in mind. Standard is so organized and they basically lay everything out for you, thank you Standard!!! I am happy to say that it was a blast and I plan on doing it next year, if they want me!! I thought that I would make a list of what I learned while planning and executing the event!!
1. You are never organized enough!!
2. You honestly can never have to many workers but make sure you have stuff for them to do.
3. The week before is going to be far worst than the week of.
4. There is always going to be someone who knows more than you and you should take that opportunity to seek there advice!
5. 5:30pm is way to early to have VBS, people work late!!
6. People do not return emails, and if they do it will be last minute.
7. Your hubby will work late all week or just be unavailable, oh that was just my luck!! :)
8. When planning a craft make sure it is a skill most of the kids have mastered.
9. Technology will fail you, have a back-up plan.
10. Test your technology before, like a practice run with your tech people.
11. The nursery workers need something to do with the kids, craft. music. something!!
12. Much of the work that I saved for the week before really could have been done before hand, dispite the schedule in the book!!
13. God has a fun way of teaching faith!
14. FCC has the best volunteers in the world!!
I had such a wonderful week and am looking forward to the program next year!!
I had so many opportunities to learn to jsut trust in the Lord! The night before we actually kicked off I had a phone call that one of the actors was held up in Springfield and wouldn't be able to make it the first day, AAAHHH!!! So I just sat there stressed to the max! I kept mumbling to myself and was just frantic. He then called me back about an hour later and said his son was willing to do it for him. Thank GOD!!! He did such a wonderful job too!! I had little things like that happen all week and by the 2nd incident I heard God tell me that he is taking care of things and to calm down and just trust him!! I appoligized and watched him take the lead. He was so faithful and I watched him change and fix things so wonderfully!! We have VBS to show God's love to the area children but I got to see his love through it too!
Lord you are such an amazing God and without you I don't think I could have done any of this without you!! Thank you for caring about stress levels and schedules. Thank you for all of the workers and all of the dedication I saw at FCC.
